Work Date vs. Work Assignment Date
Pago can report employee hours in two ways: by Work Date or by Work Assignment Date.
The employee’s actual hours do not change. This setting only controls which date Pago assigns those hours to on reports and exports.
Work Date
Work Date follows the calendar date.
For example, if an employee works from Monday 6:00 PM to Tuesday 6:00 AM, Pago splits the shift at midnight:
Date Hours
Monday 6
Tuesday 6
This option is best when you want reports and exports to match the actual calendar day when the work occurred.
Work Assignment Date
Work Assignment Date follows the date assigned to the shift.
For example, if the work assignment is dated Monday and the employee works from Monday 6:00 PM to Tuesday 6:00 AM, Pago keeps the full shift on Monday:
Date Hours
Monday 12
This option is best when you want overnight shifts to stay together under the shift date. Important Pay Period Difference
If the pay period ends on Sunday at 11:59 PM, a Sunday overnight shift can be handled differently depending on the setting.
Example: Sunday 6:00 PM to Monday 4:30 AM
Using Work Assignment Date, the full 10.5 hours stay on Sunday in the current pay period. 1
Using Work Date, the hours are split:
Pay Period Date Hours
Current pay period Sunday 6
Next pay period Monday 4.5
The key question is:
Should overnight shift hours stay together with the shift, or should they be split by the calendar date?
